With all the different kinds of audio-visual entertainment and moving images available to us nowadays, have you ever wondered how people used to take motion pictures a hundred years ago? How did they record their lives, express creativity and make films? How could these films be disseminated so that different people in the world could see them? And how can these images be preserved today so that we can all learn about the lives and cultures of our predecessors?
The exhibition will display images of film from different eras and from the early days of the invention of cinema, which will bring us back to the time when people used film to record, store and share their lives one hundred years ago. Through the rare images of 19th century film pioneers such as photographer Eadweard James Muybridge and the Lumière Brothers and their written descriptions, the exhibition will tell the story of the birth and development of cinema, and guide a new generation of viewers back to the beginning of cinema to re-understand the function of the image and the evolution of culture.
