Theme: Classic hand-drawn animations from the post-millennium era

In the last episode of the Film Club, we discussed how AI is rewriting human stories. In this episode, we want to return to the creative individuality of filmmakers and talk about some classic hand-drawn animated films from the post-millennium era.

From the *McDull* series, which began in 2001, to The Triplets of Belleville in 2003, the techniques may seem simple, but the stories always manage to make us laugh and cry, leaving an unforgettable impression. Perhaps everyone carries within them a childhood filter that’s far removed from reality. Even as adults, we still need animation.

We are honored to welcome Hong Kong cross-media creator Honkaz Fung to the Love Cinema, where he will join Joyce in a conversation revisiting the hand-drawn animation aesthetics of the past and discussing the emotional value that technological innovation cannot replace. At the same time, to contextualize these works within the shifting cultural landscape of our times, we’ll also discuss animated films that have sparked significant debate in recent years, such as Flow and The Another World. Through the lens of childhood, we’ll open up a heartfelt nostalgia spanning a quarter of a century. We look forward to seeing you at the cinema!
